چکیده

Multimedia traffic which are generally VBR in nature require efficient adaptive resource allocation schemes when supported over Mobile Networks. Admission control schemes that satisfy the desired/guaranteed QoS for multimedia applications under different traffic loads to achieve high utilization need to be designed. Packet level QoS parameters include delay, packet loss probability and jitter while the connection level QoS parameters are those related to connection establishment and management. Jitter is a packet-level QoS parameter that models the degradation in the timing relationship among packets in a single media stream and between packets from different media streams and could create problems in multimedia synchronization. In this paper we have proposed a Jitter Sensitive Dynamic Admission Control(JSDAC) scheme that dynamically adapts itself based on its packet loss and jitter tolerance capability during admission control, thus ensuring better Quality of Service(QoS) Support.

Radio Resource Management Techniques for QoS Provisioning in Wireless Cellular Networks

New generations wireless cellular networks, including 3G and 4G technologies, are envisaged to support more mobile users and a variety of wireless multimedia services. With an increasing demand for wireless multimedia services, effective Radio Resource Management (RRM) is needed to improve system performance by maximizing the overall system capacity and maintaining the Quality of Service (QoS) ...

Dynamic Call Admission Control with Joint Connection-level and Packet-level QoS Support in Wireless Multimedia Networks

In this paper, we investigate joint provision of connection-level QoS (in terms of the new call blocking probability and the handoff dropping probability) and packet-level QoS (in terms of the delay and packet loss probability). A dynamic call admission control (CAC) scheme for realistic wireless multimedia VBR traffic is presented. The proposed CAC scheme can optimize the packet-level QoS unde...

Providing Seamless QoS for Multimedia Multicast in Wireless Packet Networks

To support real-time multimedia applications in wireless packet networks, it is an essential challenge to provide seamless Quality of Service (QoS) to mobile users. In this paper, we address the problem of real-time multimedia multicast in cellular networks, and present our solution to avoid large QoS fluctuations during handoffs. Specifically, during a multicast session, a mobile host may expe...

Ant Based Dynamic Source Routing Protocol to Support Multiple Quality of Service (QoS) Metrics in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) support for Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) is an exigent task due to dynamic topology and limited resource. To support QoS, the link state information such as delay, bandwidth, jitter, cost, error rate and node energy in the network should be available and manageable. The focus of this paper is extending the scope to QoS routing procedure, to inform the source about Qo...

Cross-layer QoS Support for Multimedia Delivery over Wireless Internet

Delivering multimedia over wireless Internet is a very challenging task. Multimedia delivery inherently has strict quality-of-service (QoS) requirement on bandwidth, delay, and delay jitter. However, the current Internet can only support best-effort service, which imposes varying network conditions during multimedia delivery. The advent of wireless networks further exacerbates the variance of n...
